Jasprit Bumrah ‘s match-winning spells in Visakhapatnam Test helps him make history in ICC Test Rankings.

Jasprit Bumrah made a new record on Wednesday as he became the first pacer from India to reach the top spot in ICC Test bowling rankings. Bumrah overtook his teammate Ravichandran Ashwin who dropped two spots to be placed third in the rankings with South Africa pacer Kagiso Rabada holding onto his second spot.

Bumrah was fourth is the last round of rankings with 825 points but have jumped to the No. 1 rank after his match-winning bowling in the second India-England Test at Visakhapatnam. He now has 881 points which is a record for him.

The 30-year-old took nine wickets in second Test including six in the first innings as India bounced back to level the five-match series 1-1 after losing the first match at Hyderabad by 28 runs. Overall, Bumrah has taken 15 wickets so far in the series from just two matches. leading the wicket-taker’s chart in the series.

Bumrah is fourth bowler overall from India to claim the No. 1 ranking after Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja and Bishan Bedi.

Ashwin who led so far with 853 points only has nine wickets in two Tests against England.

Jadeja, who missed the second Test due to a hamstring injury, also dropped two spots to the ninth slot. He is the last Indian in the top 10 bowlers in ICC Test rankings.

Another Indian, opener Yashasvi Jaiswal, witnessed a massive jump in rankings as he progressed 37 places to 29th after smashing a double century in the first innings of Visakhapatnam Test. Shubman Gill jumped 14 places to a career-best 38th after scoring a century in the second essay.

England opener Zak Crawley moved eight places to a career-best 22nd spot after making of 76 and 73 in Vizag.

Leg-spinner Rehan Ahmed has progressed 14 places to 70th, Tom Hartley jumped from 103 to 95 in the batting rankings and from 63 to 53 in the bowling rankings. Hartley who debuted in Hyderabad Test is only the second England player to score at least 50 runs and take five wickets in each of his first two Tests.

The latest rankings have also factored in performances in the one-off Test between Sri Lanka and Afghanistan in Colombo. Left-arm spinner Prabhath Jayasuriya has moved up to three places to a career-best sixth position after his eight-wicket match haul helped the home side win by 10 wickets.

In the ODI rankings, Australia leg-spinner Adam Zampa is up one place to third and fast bowler Sean Abbott’s six wickets in the three-match series against the West Indies this past week have lifted him 35 places to joint-33rd position.
