Shah Rukh Khan denies intervention in freeing Indian navy sailors from Qatar after Subramanian Swamy’s tweet goes viral

Subramanian Swamy

The former Member of Rajya Sabha Subramanian Swamy tweeted how it was only after the ‘Jawan’ star intervened in the matter that the Indian sailors were freed from jail. Recently, SRK’s picture with Qatar PM Mohammed Al Thani from Doha went viral

After months of negotiations by the Indian government, seven out of eight Indian sailors were freed from Qatar jail and came back to India. Amid this, a tweet by former Member of Rajya Sabha Subramanian Swamy has gone viral that claims it was actor Shah Rukh Khan’s intervention that led to the sailors being freed.

This is what he tweeted:

And amid this, Khan’s manager Pooja Dadlani clarified that the news was untrue; have a look at her Instagram post:

The statement read- “Regarding the reports concerning Shah Rukh Khan’s purported role in the release of India’s naval officers from Qatar, the office of Mr. Shah Rukh Khan says that any such assertions of his involvement are unfounded, emphasizing the execution of this successful resolution solely rests with the Indian government officials and unequivocally denies Mr.Khans participation in this matter.”

It added, “Additionally, all matters involving diplomacy and statecraft are best executed by our very able leaders. Mr. Khan, like many other Indians, is happy that the naval officers are back home safe and wishes them all the best.”

Shah Rukh Khan’s work front

Khan returned to the big screen after a gap of over four years with Siddharth Anand’s Pathaan in January last year. It collected more than Rs 500 crore at the box-office and gave Khan a much-needed blockbuster. He followed it up with a bigger juggernaut called Jawan that went on to enter the Rs 600 crore at the ticket windows.

His last release of the year Dunki, which was directed by Rajkumar Hirani, may not have been a blazing success but is on its way to becoming a hit. It should enter the Rs 200 crore club in the coming weeks due to lack of major competition.

Directed by Rajkumar Hirani, Dunki features actors Shah Rukh Khan, Vicky Kaushal, Taapsee Pannu, and Boman Irani among others in prominent roles. The film revolves around the story of a group of friends, who use a backdoor to go to a foreign country, however, end up struggling to return.

Shah Rukh Khan in Qatar

The Bollywood star was recently in Qatar to attend the AFC Final as a guest of honour. During his visit, he also met the Qatari Prime Prime Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani. Pictures of the two interacting were widely circulated on social media.

In a statement issued early Monday, the Ministry of External Affairs said seven of the eight former Indian Navy personnel had returned to India from Qatar.

The Navy veterans were detained in the Gulf country in an alleged case of espionage in August 2022. Authorities in Qatar had accused them of spying on a submarine, and officers were jailed in the country the same month.
