Alia Bhatt flaunts Gucci bags: Well, don’t you think, it is the heights of hypocrisy, where the actress is supporting a cause against animal cruelty and simultaneously promoting a brand, which kills animals for its products?

The versatile actress of the entertainment industry, Alia Bhatt recently came on board as the executive producer for Prime Video’s web series Poacher, which uncovers the largest ivory poaching ring in Indian history. Talking about the show, the actress said at the launch, “It really leaves an impact… Supporting a story like this, for us, as an audience is very important but I really thank Richie for putting this together… I think there is a lot of genuineness in it. There is a lot of heart in it and it comes across when you see the show.”

While it is a great thing that the actress thinks about society and tries to put across an important message by using the medium of entertainment, it is quite ironic that she is also the first Indian global ambassador for Gucci, which always grabs headlines for animal cruelty in the making its leather bags.

Sharing the news on Instagram, she wrote, “I’m honored to represent the house of Gucci not only in India but at a global stage. Gucci’s legacy has always inspired and intrigued me and I’m looking forward to the many sartorial milestones we create together.”

The killings of several lizards in the manufacturing of Gucci bags, belts and purses has been severely criticised by animal activists across the globe. PETA once slammed Dakota Johnson for wearing exotic skins in her latest campaign for luxury fashion house Gucci and wrote, “The exotic-skins industry is extremely cruel. PETA Asia recently investigated an Indonesian slaughterhouse that supplies skins to Gucci, and the findings were horrific. Workers were caught on camera bashing reptiles in the head with machetes and hacking at their necks up to 14 times before they were decapitated for their skin. Crocodiles killed for their skins are often kept in filthy, crowded tanks on “crocodile farms.”

Well, don’t you think, it is the heights of hypocrisy, where the actress is supporting a cause against animal cruelty and simultaneously promoting a brand, which kills animals for its products?

The impact of Poacher was deeply personal, and Richie’s portrayal of the urgent issue of wildlife crime resonated strongly with me and the team. The storytelling genuinely moved me, especially knowing it’s based on true events that sheds light on brutal crimes occurring in our forests. I am confident that Poacher will serve as an eye-opener, delivering a powerful message to be more compassionate and considerate towards all living beings. It’s a call to embrace co-existence and I am genuinely thrilled to be collaborating with Richie, QC and Prime Video and to contribute to this narrative.”
