Congress leader Sachin Pilot took potshots at Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot over praise by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and compared it to the praise received by former Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad.

Addressing the media, Pilot said, “It’s interesting that the PM praised the CM yesterday. It must not be taken lightly. Because the PM similarly praised Gulam Nabi Azad in the Parliament and we all saw what happened.”

Pilot’s remarks come after Prime Minister Narendra Modi and CM Ashok Gehlot shared a stage at an event in Rajasthan’s Banswara. Speaking at the event, PM Modi said, “Ashok ji and I have worked together as chief ministers. He was the senior-most in our lot. He is still one of the senior-most chief ministers among those who are sitting on the stage right now.”

Meanwhile, Sachin Pilot also called for a decision on notices to three party leaders, who allegedly engineered a boycott of Congress Legislature Party (CLP) on September 25 leading to an open revolt, to be taken immediately.

Over 80 MLAs loyal to Ashok Gehlot had threatened to resign over reports that if Gehlot ran for party post, he would be replaced by his rival Sachin Pilot as CM. Ashok Gehlot later apologised to Sonia Gandhi for the Rajasthan crisis and announced his decision to pull out of the party president race. Pilot, who met Sonia Gandhi the same night, was given “specific assurances” that things would change before the state goes to the polls.

Reacting to Pilot’s statement, Gehlot said no one should give statements as party general secretary KC Venugopal had given clear instructions on the same. He said this is the time to fight the Central government on various issues and all should work unitedly.

In brief remarks, CM Ashok Gehlot, responding to Pilot’s statements, said, “(They) shouldn’t give statements right now because Venugopal ji had said that no one will make comments (against other leaders in the party). So we want everyone to follow discipline in the party.”

Annoyed over Congress high command’s ‘unilateral’ decision to opt for a new chief minister without consulting them, around 90 MLAs had skipped the CLP meet and submitted their resignation to Rajasthan Assembly Speaker C P Joshi late on September 25. The resignations have been pending with Joshi since then.
