Delhi Mundka fire: Factory where blaze started had no NOC, owners arrested on culpable homicide charge | Exclusive
The massive blaze which engulfed a four-storey building in Delhi’s Mundka on Friday began in a factory on the premises that did not have a No Objection Certificate (NOC), the city’s fire chief said.
Atul Garg, Chief of the Delhi Fire Service, told India Today/Aaj Tak that the owners of the factory in question had never applied for a Fire NOC. In fact, most of the factories that operated in the building did not possess an NOC and were functioning without following requisite guidelines, he said.
A Fire NOC issued by the state fire service verifies that a building is resistant or unlikely to observe any fire-related accidents. A business or other commercial facility can obtain one by meeting certain guidelines laid down by the fire department.
The blaze was brought under control after a six-hour long firefighting operation. Police, fire department and NDRF teams were involved in the rescue work. The fire department is currently carrying out cooling operations.
According to latest reports, around 60-70 people have been rescued from the building, while 19 are still missing. Search and rescue operations are underway.
