Canada-based Punjabi singer Shubh was all set for a concert in India but has now invited major controversy over one of his Instagram stories that he shared. The story was met with massive backlash all across and even Indian cricketer Virat Kohli unfollowed him on social media.

What was this post?

The singer shared a distorted map of India where the states of Haryana and Punjab were blackened. His caption read- “Pray for Punjab“.

BJYM has demanded a cancellation of Shubh’s India concert as they accused the singer of supporting Khalistani elements.

“There is no space for Khalistanis who are the enemy of the integrity and unity of India. We won’t allow Canadian singer Shubh to perform in the auspicious land of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, Mumbai. If no proper action is taken, then the organizers will have to face our opposition,” BJYM President Tajinder Singh Tiwana told Hindustan Times.

Indian company boAt reacts

boAt, an Indian company, has also withdrawn its sponsorship after the allegations and gave a statement that read- “When we became aware of the remarks made by artist Shubh earlier this year, we chose to withdraw our sponsorship from the tour. We will continue to foster a vibrant music culture in India.

Who is Shubhneet Singh?

Canada-based singer Shubhneet Singh, who is very popular for his funky Punjabi rap songs, is in news for wrong reasons. An Instagram post by the singer reportedly supporting Khalistan has triggered a massive controversy even as the diplomatic tension between India and Canada rages on.

Shubneet Singh who is popularly known by his stage name ‘Shubh’ became the centre of a controversy involving the straining relations between Canada and India. Shubh rose to fame in the music industry with his hits like “Elevated”, “OG” and “Cheques” and has created a massive fan base across the world.

Shubh’s performance is scheduled in Mumbai from September 23-25 which is a part of the Cruise Control 4.0 event. He is also to perform in cities such as New Delhi, Bengaluru and Hyderabad.

As India-Canada rift intensifies

Canada had earlier accused India of being involved in the killing of Khalistan suuporter Hardeep Singh Nijjar. Canada expelled New Delhi’s intelligence chief in Ottawa as an act of retaliation against India. The diplomatic relations between the two countries have reached a new low. India rejected Trudeau’s allegations and in a marked reciprocal, expelled a senior Canadian diplomat giving him five days to leave the country.
