Asian Games 2023: As India register best-ever medal haul, a look at medal tally in each edition

best-ever medal haul

Here’s a look at India’s medal tally in each Asian Games edition as the country registers its best-ever medal haul at Hangzhou 2022.

India scripted history at the 2023 Asian Games in Hangzhou, China by registering their best-ever haul of 107 medals including their best-ever gold medal tally of 28. This is the first time in the history of the Asian Games which began in 1951 that India have crossed the 100-medal mark.

Their previous best finish came in the 2018 edition where Indian athletes claimed 70 medals to finish eighth in the overall medal tally. This is only the second time that the country has won 100 medals or more in any of the three major Games — Olympics, Commonwealth Games and Asian Games. India recorded 101 medals at the 2010 Commonwealth Games when the event was held in New Delhi.

Since the Asian Games’ inception in 1951, India have achieved a number of historic feats over the years. However, winning 100 medals seemed like a too-far bridge to cross. Before the 2018 Jakarta Games, India could cross the 60-medal only once in 2010 when they secured 65 medals including 14 gold, 17 silver and 34 bronze.

Here’s a complete look at India’s medals tally in all Asian Games.
