Apple could launch newer Macs with M3 chip by the end of 2023
Apple is gearing up to release newer Macs with the upcoming M3 chips by the end of the year. Mark Gurman of Bloomberg has provided new information regarding the next-generation MacBooks ahead of the upcoming WWDC 2023 conference. According to the reporter, Apple is expected to launch the next-generation Macs with the new M3 chip by the end of 2023.
The Apple Silicon M3 is also said to represent a significant shift from the current M2 series of processors, and they will be manufactured using TSMC’s more efficient 3nm process. The report also claims that the next-generation processors from Apple will offer more CPU and GPU cores.
It is said that the M3 Pro chip, the processor that’s expected to power the MacBook Pro and the Mac Studio will have at least 12 CPU cores and 18 GPU cores with support for up to 36 GB of unified memory. Hence, the M3 is expected to deliver improved single-core and multi-core performance, possibly with the same power envelope. Out of the 12 CPU cores, the processor is said to have 6 high-performance cores and 6 efficient cores.
While the new Macs could get a major upgrade in terms of computing capabilities, they are likely to look similar to the current models, featuring a metal unibody design.
The Apple M3 series of processors, thanks to the more efficient manufacturing process, should be able to deliver more performance per watt when compared to its predecessor. If you’re planning to get a Mac with an M3 chip, you might have to wait until at least Q4 2023. While Apple is expected to announce new Macs such as the 15-inch MacBook Air at WWDC 2023, they are likely to be powered by the M2 chip, which also powers the MacBook Air 2022.
